Marcia Coleman-Joyner, formerly a paralegal, began her wedding consulting business in 1989 with her sister and best friend, Gretchen, formerly the Director of Human Resources for ABC Radio and Television in San Francisco. Frequently known as "GreMar", the sisters envisioned a "happy" business where they could incorporate their professional and detail-oriented backgrounds with over 17 years of experience coordinating special events and fundraisers on a non-profit basis.

Marcia considers "A Joyous Occasion" to be her "second life" and, although Gretchen  returned to the corporate arena in Boston, she will always be grateful to Gretchen for convincing her to embark upon this second career.

In 1991, two years after hanging her shingle, Marcia became the first Wedding Consultant to be certified by Ann Nola's Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants ("ACPWC"). She served as the ACPWC's Chairperson for eight terms and was the first member to instruct the certification course. Marcia has taught the course since 1995 in Northern California, Southern California, Georgia and, in 2010, Maryand and New Jersey will be added to the list.

In January 1995, Marcia originated and coordinated the first annual KEZR $10,000 Wedding Give-Away, proving that wedding professionals "do have a heart". For five consecutive years at The Bridal Extravaganza Bridal Shows, a lucky couple actually won over $10,000.00 in vendor credits toward their wedding. Marcia donated full coordination services over an eleven-month period for each couple.

For the last 5 years, Marcia and her networking group have donated wedding services to winners of the Fattal Foundation's Bone Marrow Transplant Fundraiser.

After 21 years in the business, Marcia now coordinates a maximum of 20 weddings per season (April through October). During the off-months, she concentrates on fundraisers and corporate events.

Marcia offers a complimentary, no-obligagtion consultation to discuss the couple's desires and prepares a budget based on their vision, lifestyles and personalities. She provides an a la carte service, which allows them to "pick and choose" the services required. No wedding is too small or too large, and no two weddings are alike.

It is not Marcia's desire to take the planning away from the Bride, Groom, or family, but rather to enhance it. This is accomplished by doing as little or as much as the couple wants, from complete involvement with the planning to simply overseeing the "Joyous Occasion".
